Chapter: 379
Beth attempted to reassure her son with hopeful words, but he saw right through them.
"Mom, do you really believe what he's saying? Before, he wouldn't dare cross a line because you were there to protect me. But now, Alan's getting stronger, and he's beyond anyone's control. Without any influence of my own, I'm genuinely at risk."
Miguel turned his wheelchair closer and clutched at his mother's sleeve, looking more and more pitiful.
"Mom, could you bear it if your only disabled son vanished from Osewood one day? Then, you'd be left with your great-grandson, possibly forgetting about me."
Miguel released his hold and slumped back, his energy seeming to drain away.
"As long as you're okay, I suppose nothing else really matters."
His words pierced Beth's heart one after another.
As people grew older, their children often become their primary concern.
Beth had already lost her eldest son in a car accident, and now only her younger, disabled son remained.
How could she not be worried?
“No, Miguel. I won't let that happen to you," Beth reassured her son.
Miguel shook his head dejectedly and said, “Mom, you can't keep me from any harm. By the time something happens, it'll be too late for regrets."
Then, appearing as if he was struck by a sudden idea, he leaned in closer.
“Mom, why don't you give me your shares in Hewitt Group? If I hold the shares, I'll have a standing in the company. It won't be so easy for Alan to harm me then."
Beth's face fell, and her gaze darkened. She was silent for a long while.
When Alan returned home, Kaitlin immediately noticed that something was wrong with him.
“Alan, did you get to the bottom of it? Why were you gone so long?"
“Yes, I found out. It was Miguel who did it."
Alan then turned to the butler and instructed, "Don't accept any gifts from my mom's place. Make sure that anything intended for children is meticulously checked before it reaches Kaitlin."
"Understood, Mr. Hewitt."
The butler nodded, indicating that he had kept it in mind.
Kaitlin was not shocked by the revelation. Given Beth's deep affection for her grandson, she wouldn't harm his child.
Who else but Miguel, who occasionally visited Beth, would harbor such bad intentions?
“Since it was him, we just need to be careful from now on. Alan, you look upset. What happened while you were out?"
