Chapter: 386
Denton gave a nod, and Kaitlin exited the room.
After their farewells, Denton was about to leave but Alan stopped him.
“Mr. Gilbert, just a moment, please."
"Is there something else?"
“Actually, Mr. Gilbert, I have a personal question for you."
"Go ahead."
Alan didn't hesitate. "Ever since the Estresa Element Design Competition began, I've noticed your interest in Kaitlin. May I ask why?"
Previously, Alan might have suspected that Denton harbored romantic feelings for Kaitlin, but not anymore.
If Denton had been infatuated, surely he would have shown some jealousy towards Alan's attentions towards Kaitlin.
But he hadn't.
So, what was the reason?
Caught off guard by the question, Denton paused for a moment before offering a faint smile.
"Mr. Hewitt, perhaps you're misunderstanding something. I don't harbor romantic feelings for Kaitlin as you might think. I hold her in high regard and respect her, purely as a friend."
Alan nodded, though he appeared unconvinced. "I see, but I believe there's more to it."
Denton couldn't suppress a chuckle at Alan's serious demeanor.
“You're right. Mr. Hewitt, let me be honest with you."
"Kaitlin looks a lot like my mom," Denton shared.
Alan's eyes widened in surprise.
If it wasn't merely a coincidence, then perhaps...
Memories of their first meeting flooded back, and Alan's suspicions deepened.
Denton, noticing his distraction, looked puzzled.
“Mr. Hewitt, did you remember something?"
Snapping back to reality, Alan shook his head. "No, nothing at all. Mr. Gilbert, please be careful out there."
“Sure, I'll head out now. You take care as well."
