Chapter: 394
Alan replied with a firm nod, “His animosity towards me is quite blatant. This project is way out of Murphy Group's league, yet Shawn has pulled every trick in the book to secure it. Something doesn't add up."
Kaitlin's eyebrows shot up. She too had caught wind of the news report.
What Shawn had done this time had cast both himself and Murphy Group in a notorious light throughout Osewood. It simply wasn't worth it.
"So, what did you find?" Kaitlin asked.
Shawn had no ties to Hewitt Group, much less any reason to be their enemy.
"It's just so odd..." Kaitlin murmured as she scanned the document, her brow furrowing. "Is Shawn adopted?" she finally asked.
Alan nodded. "Yes. Is there something wrong with that?"
Kaitlin's frown deepened.
There was no known connection between the Murphy family and Hewitt Group. Logically, Shawn should not have harbored such hostility towards Alan.
Could Shawn's actions be tied to his life before adoption?
"Perhaps you should look into his life before he was adopted," she suggested.
Alan nodded, finding the idea sensible.
“Okay, I'll have someone look into it as soon as possible."
Their conversation about Shawn came to a halt. After Alan finished his chicken broth, Kaitlin was ready to head home.
Alan offered to accompany her, but as they stepped into the elevator, Kaitlin stopped him.
“The driver's downstairs. I can manage on my own. You should get back to your work," she said.
“Make sure to call me once you're home," Alan urged.
Kaitlin gave a quick nod. "Will do."
As the doors of the elevator shut, it began its descent.
Kaitlin had assumed this exclusive elevator, reserved for the CEO, would lead directly to the parking lot, yet it halted unexpectedly.
The elevator doors opened on the fifteenth floor.
Kaitlin's eyes widened slightly as she saw Ashley standing there.
Without hesitation, Ashley stepped into the elevator.
“Fancy seeing you here, Kaitlin," she remarked casually.
