Chapter: 410
The more Miguel pondered, the angrier he got. In a fit of rage, he shattered a glass that had just been placed in his study.
His assistant, who was about to knock, paused at the doorway upon hearing the commotion and quietly lowered his hand.
After some digging, Alan uncovered an old employee of the Aston Group who had been involved in the situation years ago.
Convincing this old employee to come to the Hewitt Group's office and meet Alan took Dylan considerable effort.
Upon entering the office, the man appeared visibly uneasy.
Setting aside what he was holding, Alan made his way over to the sofa and sat down.
"You were Mr. Aston's assistant, Zahir Stanley, right?" he asked.
Zahir hesitated before nodding.
The title seemed to unsettle him slightly.
"Take a seat. There's no need to be nervous," Alan continued, trying to put him at ease. "I just have a few questions. I'd appreciate your honest answers."
Zahir took a moment before sitting down, stealing glances at Alan.
Alan remained quiet for a short period, then broke the silence.
“If you were skilled enough to assist Mr. Aston, why are you now working as a mere salesperson?"
At that, Zahir managed a strained smile.
"Mr. Hewitt, you've obviously looked into my background," he remarked.
“Why ask questions you already know the answer to? What is it you really want to ask? Just get to the point."
Alan acknowledged the comment with a nonchalant nod, confirming he had indeed scrutinized Zahir's background thoroughly.
Alan was taken aback when he saw Zahir in person, even though he had investigated him.
Over the years, the former CEO's assistant had aged significantly, looking worn and tired.
Zahir's once bright and illustrious past seemed to have faded away.
The man before Alan looked just like any other office worker.
“You're quite straightforward. I've looked over your file. I need to know the real reason behind Aston Group's bankruptcy back then," Alan questioned directly, maintaining intense eye contact to see his reaction.
He was alert to any slight twitch or movement.
Without hesitating, Zahir slowly lifted his head to meet Alan's gaze.
