Chapter: 417
"Kaitlin, why do you act so superior? Huh?"
The elevator beeped, but Kaitlin held the door open.
She inquired, “What are you trying to say?"
“I just find you laughable. If Alan could end things with me, he'll probably leave you someday too," Ashley snorted.
With a sneer, she glanced at Kaitlin's stomach.
“Maybe he'll leave you after the baby comes. I heard that you were married for three years but did not have a child."
Her voice dripped with scorn, and her eyes burned with bitterness.
Once skilled at hiding her feelings, Ashley no longer cared to pretend.
"Are you finished?" Kaitlin responded coolly.
At that, Ashley's face stiffened. Kaitlin's indifferent reaction left her disappointed.
"The same old tactics, Ashley. I thought you might have learned something new by now," Kaitlin scoffed.
Kaitlin stopped holding the elevator door and then the elevator doors sealed shut.
The last glimpse Ashley caught was Kaitlin's indifferent smile.
As the elevator ascended, Ashley was engulfed in humiliation, feeling like a laughingstock.
Kaitlin decided against mentioning the encounter to Alan and instead chose to catch up on recent happenings.
“Miguel has been quite disruptive lately. Has he bothered you?" she asked.
Alan shook his head, grasped Kaitlin's hand, and drew her close.
Kaitlin gasped softly, her ears reddening.
“What are you doing?" she murmured shyly.
"Kaitlin, I'm just worn out. Miguel is nothing but a despicable troublemaker. He can't cause any real harm. Don't worry," Alan reassured her.
Resting his head against Kaitlin's shoulder and inhaling her distinctive fragrance, Alan felt his nerves settle.
“It's good you're managing it. With the jewelry show approaching, I need to oversee my studio personally, or I'll be uneasy," Kaitlin said.
Alan lifted his head, his brow creased with concern.
"Kaitlin, didn't you promise to stay home? Why are you..."
