Chapter: 61
“I mean it, believe it or not. Our family needs a mistress."
Alan's expression was uneasy. His only wish was to keep Kaitlin close, to see her every day.
"Alan, you flatter me. There are countless women in this city who would jump at the chance to marry you and become the mistress of the Hewitt family. I've been there, and clearly, I'm not cut out for it. You need to find someone else." Her voice dripped with sarcasm.
"I've grown accustomed to having you in my life, Kaitlin. I'm serious. If you agree to remarry, I'll agree to any condition you set. You can continue working, and I'll support you completely.”
There was a desperate edge to Alan's voice, as if he feared she might not believe him.
Kaitlin tensed, finally grasping the gravity of his plea.
But his delayed apology was meaningless now; the damage was irreversible.
"Alan, please leave. Don't say such things again. Our relationship was doomed from the start. I confess I had feelings for you, but there's no future for us."
In the end, Kaitlin ushered Alan out of the house.
He lingered at the closed door, deep in thought.
Despite his apology, he had failed to secure her forgiveness.
Inside, Kaitlin leaned against the wall and slid to the floor, torn.
Alan was the man she had loved for three years. How could she get over him so easily?
Her heart was heavy. Emotionally, she felt Like weeping, but her mind told her it was pointless.
They were divorced after all. She couldn't fall back into the same trap.
Kaitlin let out a weary sigh and decided to take a break.
In the end, Kaitlin who once adored him deeply never opened the door for him. Alan found himself back at the Hewitt family's estate.
After wandering in the chilly night air, slightly inebriated, he quickly fell sick.
As the fever took hold, he began to talk nonsensically. Surprisingly, instead of calling out for Ashley, he repeatedly murmured Kaitlin's name.
Beth observed her grandson's confused state with a furrowed brow.
"Could they have quarreled?" she murmured.
He had seemed perfectly well during his last visit. What could have made him so ill all of a sudden?
Alina, who was nearby, hesitated before responding, "Mrs. Hewitt, the last time they visited, his wife stayed overnight in the study."
“What?” Beth now felt sure they had a fight. "Very well, set up a meeting with Kaitlin for me at Century Plaza."
