Chapter: 62
She resolved to step in herself, hoping to take Kaitlin out and uncover the root of the problem.

Given the absence of a great-grandchild, she felt compelled to act as a mediator.

Alina promptly contacted Kaitlin.

After a moment's hesitation, Kaitlin delegated her responsibilities to Phoebe and Quintin and made her way to Century Plaza.

Upon their meeting, Beth greeted Kaitlin with a warm grasp of her hands.

"Kaitlin, it's been ages since you've visited. I've missed you, which is why I asked to see you. I hope it's not an inconvenience?"

Kaitlin shook her head. "Not at all, Beth. It's fine."

“Then let's enjoy a shopping spree. It's the perfect time for a wardrobe refresh for the changing seasons," Beth proposed, skillfully avoiding the topic of Alan's illness. She lavished Kaitlin with an array of jewelry and clothing, showing her deep care and concern.

Despite Kaitlin's initial resistance, she eventually yielded to Beth's kindness.

After their exhaustive shopping trip, they finally settled into seats at a nearby restaurant.

"I haven't had a shopping spree like this for ages. It really brings back my youth," Beth remarked, her smile beaming.

Kaitlin returned the smile. "You've always seemed young to me. You're in such good health."

"Kaitlin, has there been trouble between you and Alan lately? He dropped by last night feverish, murmuring your name," Beth said, her voice laced with worry.

Kaitlin's expression hardened slightly; she suspected this was Beth's reason for inviting her out.

She didn't think it was a good idea for her to share Alan and her divorce with Beth.

“Beth, the truth is, Alan doesn't truly love me. He views me more as a stand-in for someone else," Kaitlin admitted, her voice fading.

Beth's face grew stern.

"Kaitlin, don't worry. Regardless of Alan's feelings, you'll always be his wife."

Kaitlin shook her head. "I can't stay with a man who doesn't love me. It's better to free him."

“Don't say that, Kaitlin. You will always be my granddaughter-in-law. Those other women mean nothing," Beth asserted with conviction.

"But I..." Kaitlin started to object, but Beth squeezed her hand firmly.

"Kaitlin, ever since I first met you, I've known you were a genuine soul. A woman like you is the only one worthy of Alan. Trust me, couples have their ups and downs, but they reconcile. I'll see to it that Alan makes amends."

Kaitlin managed a forced smile. Alan had apologized the previous night, but it had changed nothing.

Kaitlin remained silent. No matter what she would have said, Beth was not going to be swayed.
