Chapter: 1008
She even understood why Jayson's parents had pushed Aimee to contact her; the Watsons adored their son and must be devastated to see him so depressed.

"Jayson, don't be so hard on yourself. I'm not upset. Please, Look after yourself."

Jayson didn't reply with text but sent a voice message instead.

Casting a glance at Jonathan, Bethany translated the voice message to text.

"They keep saying I'm starving myself over you. No matter what I say, they won't believe me! I just really miss the kids."

Bethany empathized with Jayson.

She was well aware of the sacrifices Jayson had made for Nola and Rowan.

As she was about to respond, another short voice message arrived from Jayson.

Intending to transcribe it, Bethany accidentally played the message aloud.

In the silent ward, Jayson's hoarse yet tender voice filled the air.

He said, "I miss you too."

Panic seized Bethany.

She felt the urge to hurl her phone away.

Without looking up, she sensed Jonathan's piercing gaze.

His stare felt so intense that it seemed to scorch her.

Jayson's words could easily lead to misinterpretation!

Anyone listening might reasonably assume that Bethany had first messaged Jayson, saying “I miss you," and his message was a reply.

“Well, I..."

Bethany began, but before she could continue, Jonathan rose from his desk.

She thought he was approaching her, but instead, he entered the bathroom and shut the door.

Within seconds, the sound of running water filled the space.

He had started a shower!

But he hadn't even heard her out yet!

Bethany hastily slipped into her slippers and rushed to the bathroom door, calling out, "Jonathan, it's not what you think!"
