Chapter: 106
Brody was juggling several major projects. He couldn't dedicate all his attention to the SNS project, leaving much of it in Bethany's hands.
It was almost noon when Bethany looked up from a mountain of documents and stepped out to call Aimee on a staircase.
“Tomorrow, I need to bring a man to meet my mother."
"What?" Aimee sounded a bit perplexed. "I've found someone, but he can't make it until next week. Can you wait?"
"My mother insisted I bring someone within three days, or she's leaving the hospital."
If it were up to Bethany, she would delay it, perhaps long enough for her mother to forget the whole matter.
"Your mother really knows how to pull your strings." Aimee clicked her tongue. "What can I do? I'll speak to my friend. Don't worry."
After ending the call, Bethany returned to her office and noticed a message from Jonathan.
"There's news from the hospital. Your mother wants to delay the surgery."
"No need to delay! I'll handle it. Thank you for your concern."
Bethany was certain her mother thought she wouldn't bring a man to meet her, and this was her way of issuing a veiled warning.
Bethany sighed. Whenever she thought of Marie, she felt frustrated and helpless.
"Is there anything I can do for you?" Another message popped up. It was from Jonathan again.
Bethany pursed her lips.
Yes, what she needed was for him to accompany her to the hospital to see Marie, where he might face being yelled at, criticized, or even insulted by Marie. Could he handle that?
With another sigh, Bethany responded, "It's okay. She's just a bit grumpy over some minor issues. I'll talk to her. She's also somewhat scared about the surgery."
After that, Bethany sent a message to her mother, saying, “I'll definitely bring a man to see you tomorrow. Please don't threaten to delay the surgery. It's hard to coordinate the schedules of the specialists for the surgery."
Bethany had made that promise, but Aimee hadn't responded by the time she left work.
Bethany returned to East Shade Bay with a heavy heart. She struggled to concentrate on her computer work. Her thoughts were overtaken by her concerns.
How could she find a man to accompany her to see her mother?
Jonathan finished his work and came back to the bedroom. Noticing Bethany's distress, he approached and stood beside her, which felt overwhelming.
“What's wrong?" he asked.
"Nothing. I'm just dealing with a headache from all these contract readings."
"Then leave it until tomorrow."
