Chapter: 107
Jonathan then closed Bethany's laptop and pushed her onto the bed.
After they were intimate, Jonathan headed for a shower. He paused at the bathroom door and mentioned, "I have something important to do tomorrow."
Bethany still felt the traces of Jonathan's kisses. But his words made her heart drop.
"Okay..."
She knew it was Maddie's birthday.
“Don't come back before ten o'clock in the evening. Stay with your mother."
"Okay," Bethany said.
Even if Jonathan told her not to return the whole night, she would agree.
After giving his instructions, Jonathan went off to shower. Bethany lay in the bed and sighed deeply.
She kept pondering whether she should start looking for a new place to live just in case. She concluded that even if she were to be kicked out, she wouldn't end up without a roof over her head.
That night, Bethany was restless and fell asleep as dawn approached.
When Bethany woke up, Jonathan had already left. Only the breakfast he had made and his usual note were left on the dining room table.
Bethany sat down to eat and called Aimee.
Aimee explained, "My friend is currently overseas. What should we do?"
“Maybe I should hire someone instead."
This was Bethany's last option.
“When are you planning to go see your mom at the hospital?" Aimee asked.
Bethany paused for a moment before asking, “After work, around five."
“Wait for my text then. I'll see if I can find someone to help you. If I can't, perhaps you could ask your mom to wait a few more days until my friend returns."
Bethany felt a headache starting, but what else was there to say?
Aimee was clearly doing all she could to help.
As Bethany prepared for work, even Brody noticed she seemed off.
After the morning meeting, Brody summoned Bethany to his office. "Has your workload increased recently? You can discuss it with me."
"No, it's nothing like that. I just had a rough night's sleep."
