Chapter: 108
Now that Bethany was deeply involved in the project, she knew she couldn't just drop it.
“Then try not to work late at home anymore. It affects your performance the next day, and it's not worth it," Brody reminded her kindly.
“Okay, I understand."
As Bethany left the office, she checked her phone once more.
There was still no message from Aimee.
Bethany had already begun drafting a plan in her head, concerned she might make a mistake while trying to fool her mother.
Hours ticked by slowly. For the first time, Bethany wished Aimee, usually so talkative, would hurry up and get in touch. But the day ended with no word from her.
Left with no other option, Bethany organized her files, grabbed her bag, and left Bates Group, feeling downhearted.
Suddenly, Bethany spotted a familiar figure at the entrance, who appeared to be waiting for someone.
It was Jayson.
Today, he was dressed to impress in a suit and leather shoes, a stark contrast to their last meeting. Standing in front of the building, he exuded the air of a seasoned business executive.
As it was the end of the workday, many women walking by took notice of Jayson and murmured to each other.
Well, although Jayson didn't have Jonathan's striking features, he was still quite attractive with his thick eyebrows and large eyes, complemented by gold-rimmed glasses that gave him an intellectual Look.
Jayson's polished appearance made him seem approachable and gentlemanly, quite the opposite of Jonathan's detached and aristocratic demeanor.
“Mr. Watson, are you here to discuss a project with Bates Group?"
Bethany hesitated but walked towards Jayson.
"No, I'm here to pick you up," Jayson said it with a gentle smile.
“Aimee filled me in on everything."
Bethany was speechless.
"Don't worry about it. We're friends, and I'm glad to help."
Bethany managed a smile. “Did she mention—"
"She did," Jayson interjected. “I understand your mother's expectations. But it's my first time acting as someone's newlywed husband, so I'm a bit anxious. Just bear with me."
The phrase “newlywed husband" felt so out of place to Bethany.
But at this moment, Bethany had no alternatives.
