Chapter: 1075
Bethany thought for a moment before nodding. “Sort of."
After all, Aimee slept a lot because she was pregnant with Nikolas' child.
“When she wakes up, I'll talk to her. How could she ask you to cook for her? If you want to eat something, you can just tell me. You're in a bad mood, always worrying about your mother's case."
“Don't blame her! I'm just cooking; it's no big deal." Bethany avoided mentioning Nikolas’ name around Aimee.
A pregnant woman's emotions were like a rollercoaster, unpredictable and intense. With Aimee newly pregnant and the drama with Nikolas still unresolved, Bethany feared that even a mild scolding from Jayson could send Aimee into a tailspin.
"Then, how about I cook tomorrow? I can pick up breakfast on my way over, and I'll make lunch and dinner, too." Jayson added quickly, "I'll leave after cooking. I won't stay for a meal."
"No, really, Aimee will be fine after a little while," Bethany replied; she didn't dare agree to his offer.
She knew the importance of Aimee's diet after the abortion. If Jayson cooked, he might find out about the pregnancy.
“Okay, Jayson conceded, noticing Bethany's unease. As she turned back to the kitchen, he rolled up his sleeves and stood. “I'll help you, then."
Bethany felt uncomfortable, but this was Aimee's apartment-an apartment Jayson had bought with his money-so she couldn't exactly shoo him away.
Despite her discomfort, Jayson's visit helped Bethany make a decision.
She realized she couldn't stay in Aimee's apartment long-term. The city was big enough; she could rent her own place. At least it would be hers, a space where she could breathe and think freely.
When Aimee woke up, Nathan had already left.
She stretched, taking in the table full of dishes with a smile as bright as a child's.
“Bethany, sometimes I really miss our days at Ensson Corporation. Even though you had to go to the hospital to take care of your mom after work, we could shop without any worries on weekends."
She sighed, thinking back to the occasional work frustrations that seemed so minor now-problems that could be fixed with a Little complaining and laughter.
Things were different now. It felt like she was facing a mountain of unsolvable problems.
"You have to grow up, Aimee," Bethany said gently. "Eat now, eat more."
"Okay."
Aimee sat down, ready to dive into the comforting meal, when the doorbell rang.
“It's getting dark. Who could this be? It's not my cousin, is it?"
“I don't think so. He was just here," Bethany replied.
“He was here? Really?"
Bethany nodded.
