Chapter: 1127
During the morning meeting of Team Four, tasks were distributed, and Colt carefully chose two people for the due diligence tasks.
Kiley wasn't included.
After everyone else had left the meeting, Bethany lingered to take down some notes, which delayed her a bit.
When she finally left, she overheard Kiley and Colt arguing by the stairwell.
“Colt, are you so scared of upsetting Bethany? Tell me the truth, are you interested in that woman? I'm going to tell my aunt!"
“Be quiet, will you?"
“Quiet? You're basically excluding me from the project team. It's obvious what you're up to!"
Colt lowered his voice and responded sternly, "Do you even know who Ms. Holt is? Stop making wild accusations. Listen, if you don't want to be thrown out of the Bates Group, you better keep your distance from Ms. Holt and behave yourself, understood?"
"I don't care! I want to be part of this project!"
"If you hadn't upset Ms. Holt, I might have considered it. But now, there's no chance!"
As Bethany listened, she realized they must have been discussing this earlier, when she first saw them together in the morning.
Bethany didn't want to eavesdrop, so after catching a few phrases, she went back to her office.
She didn't have any specific grudge against Kiley, but she wasn't a saint either. She wasn't going to make an effort to ask Colt to involve Kiley in the project.
Bethany easily logged into the Bates Group software.
Now, she found herself habitually checking the meeting channel to see if any executive sessions were planned.
She had decided she would never attend one again.
But for some reason, looking at them made she feel like Jonathan was not so far away.
Her phone started ringing.
She looked over; it was Jayson calling. "Hi, Jayson."
"You're not at the apartment?"
"No, I'm at Bates Group, working."
There was a brief silence before he asked, "Did Jonathan set this up?"
“Didn't I mention? I previously worked at Goldwald Company, which merged with Bates Group. It's only natural for me to be here now. Jonathan had nothing to do with it."
“Okay. What time are you finishing today? I can come pick you up."
