Chapter: 1135
A wry smile touched Bethany's lips. Just as she prepared to return Jonathan's call, a knock reverberated through the door.
“Come in.”
The door creaked open, revealing Kiley.
Bethany's demeanor hardened instantly, like a winter frost settling.
“Aren't you done?"
"No, it's not that. I've come to apologize. It was all my fault!"
Kiley's voice was a mere whisper as she lowered her gaze. "I'm deeply sorry, Ms. Holt. It was a misunderstanding!"
Bethany knew Colt had spilled the beans about her true identity. She waved her hand dismissively. "Just leave."
"Please don't fire me. I'm genuinely remorseful. Landing a job at Bates Group wasn't easy for me. I thought Colt liked you. I was angry for my aunt. I had no idea you and Mr. Bates..."
Jonathan was the CEO of Bates Group!
If Colt hadn't let slip her true identity, Kiley would never have fathomed that the CEO's woman would labor as a project manager and maintain such a low profile.
“Whether you keep your job or not is a matter for HR to decide. It's out of my hands."
"If you keep quiet, HR won't find out anything! I beg you, please forgive me."
Bethany took a deep breath, her resolve softening. She hadn't meant to make things difficult for an assistant.
“Promise me you won't breathe a word about what Colt told you, alright?"
Kiley nodded vigorously. “I promise! My lips are sealed."
“Very well. You can Leave now."
As Kiley was about to offer her thanks, her gaze fell upon Bethany's phone, which was once again vibrating with an incoming call The caller ID flashed Jonathan's name.
So Colt didn't lie about Bethany and Jonathan's relationship!
At that moment, Kiley deeply regretted her actions. Why had she lashed out at someone she couldn't afford to upset?
"I'm leaving now, Ms. Holt!"
Feeling uneasy, Kiley quickly exited Bethany's office.
Bethany merely frowned.
She genuinely disliked using Jonathan as a defense. It felt odd. They were no longer together, yet she still had to invoke his name to command respect from others.
