Bethany overheard Nikolas and Maddie talking but was clueless about the full context.

Wasn't Jonathan supposed to be with Maddie? Bethany couldn't grasp how she could be Linked to Jonathan's accident.

"Today is August 25th. Don't you realize that?" he asked.

She knew the date. And then?

Nikolas scoffed, "Don't pretend you're oblivious! Reflect on your recent actions! You've married Jonathan, but you've just been seen with another man. Bethany, you're causing quite a stir. You're the only one bold enough to betray Jonathan!"

Another man? Jayson?

“So Jonathan knew I brought Jayson to the hospital," Bethany murmured.

"Yes, he did."

"I can explain!" She had never imagined it would lead to Jonathan having a car accident.

Had Nikolas not made the connection, she wouldn't have considered the possibility.

“You'd better get out of here right now! Or I might forget my rule about never hitting a woman."

With that, Nikolas walked away.

Bethany was left standing alone in the bustling corridor. After a while, she touched her swollen cheek, her gaze fixed on the red light above the emergency room door.

Time slowly ticked by.

Bethany waited through the night, but Jonathan never emerged from the emergency room, nor was there any update on his condition.

Then, a call from Brody came through. “Why weren't you at the morning meeting?"

When Bethany spoke, she realized how hoarse her voice had become.

"Can I take the day off?"

“Is it something serious?" After hearing Bethany's strained voice, Brody hesitated. Then he replied, "Okay. Make sure you come to work early tomorrow."

As Brody was about to end the call, Bethany quickly interjected, "Wait! Did Mr. Bates come to work today?"

"Mr. Bates? He reportedly had a car accident. He didn't come today. But I just heard he's on a business trip tonight as planned. It doesn't seem to be anything serious."

“Did he call you himself?"

“Yes. What's the matter?"

Bethany forced a wry smile. “Nothing. Thank you."
