Chapter: 1153
"I admit that I never liked Bethany, but I didn't ask you to harm her in any way. We both know how stubborn Jonathan can be sometimes. You could have tried convincing him to give her up instead of using extreme measures. Look now; he's against us. I tried talking to him, but his mind is already made up."
Godfrey had considered letting Bethany marry Jonathan to see if Jonathan would have a change of heart, but he just wouldn't budge.
Francine's expression became cold as she snorted.
She knew her husband too well and how he handled things. "Don't you dare use accepting Bethany as a bargaining chip! I can't stand seeing her become a part of this family. I'd rather fight till my last breath than watch her become my daughter-in-law."
"I already proposed it, but it didn't work."
"What? Bethany refused?" Francine laughed mockingly. "She is not fit to be married into this family. Her background says it all. She is not one inch fit to be as much of a servant in our family. Don't let the lawsuit get you worked up. She may have sued me, but that doesn't guarantee that she'll what she wants. If I could kill her mother, I can kill her too."
Hearing that, Godfrey interrupted sharply, “Just don't cause more trouble, understood? Our son already gave Bethany enough evidence against you, so we should stay off the radar for now."
If it weren't for Jonathan's sake, Godfrey would've silenced Bethany forever.
Godfrey had considered that it would mean pushing Jonathan too far and consequently make reconciliation impossible.
“Speaking of the evidence, you are to blame! You were the one who handed Maddie over to Jonathan! Why did you do that? I warned you countless times not to involve yourself with her!"
The evidence would've been useless if Maddie didn't get to testify.
“How was I supposed to know? You told me you only supported Maddie and were not involved in Marie's death."
Francine was at a loss for words.
"Also, didn't I mention that we should get rid of Maddie? When she harmed our son, I no longer wanted her around!" Godfrey continued.
Francine inhaled deeply. “It was only later when I visited her that she brought up a missing USB drive. Who would have thought it would end up with Bethany?"
What a coincidence!
"Huh, who would have thought? Well, Maddie knew!"
“What do you mean?"
"She acted so boldly because she believed you would support her. If things escalated, she figured Jonathan would defend you, and indirectly, her, since she had leverage over you!"
But Maddie didn't understand that for Jonathan, Bethany mattered more than anything.
Now, he didn't care about his mother at all.
“It can't be. Maddie has always been loyal, right by my side. You know how devoted she is! And the kidnapping"
"Kidnapping?" Godfrey scoffed. "I'm too busy to deal with her antics! But if I had the time, I'd check if that kidnapping was just an accident or some scheme by Maddie to get closer to you!"
“That kidnapping couldn't have been orchestrated by her! If Maddie was involved, she wouldn't have been able to keep everyone quiet. You interrogated them yourself; they didn't mention Maddie. Don't be so suspicious."
