Chapter: 1158
Nikolas furrowed his brow. "What are you talking about?"
“Didn't Jayson tell you to arrange lunch with Bethany?"
Suddenly, Nikolas understood. Moments later, he burst into laughter.
He Laughed until his belly ached.
“I was joking before! Did you fall for it? Jonathan, you're usually so astute. How did you not catch on? Wasn't it obvious from my tone?"
“Damn you."
Jonathan was ready to end the call, but Nikolas quickly interjected, “Hey! Don't be upset! I'm just looking out for you. Aimee and I are expecting, while you're on your own, I'm just worried about you, man!"
"Worried about me?"
"Yes! Don't you wish you had what Aimee and I share?"
With a scoff, Jonathan retorted, "Yeah, I do. That's why you're coming to Ferindel tomorrow to take some of my workload. You'll be here for a year."
"What?" Nikolas gasped, disbelief coloring his voice. “No! I can't leave Odonset! Aimee's pregnant. How can you be so heartless?"
“I guess I'm just too envious of your perfect life."
Nikolas fell silent.
“Do you still want to act all lovey-dovey?"
Quickly, Nikolas denied, "No, absolutely not. We argue all the time! And taking care of Aimee has been exhausting. Honestly, man, being single might be the better route. Just keep Living Like this! I envy you!"
"Cut the crap. And don't send me any more nonsense."
"Understood, Mr. Bates!"
After hanging up, Nikolas exhaled deeply, relieved.
He had been terrified, genuinely fearing Jonathan would force him to move to Ferindel.
Jonathan could be formidable, and Nikolas decided it was best not to stir further trouble.
Upon his return, Aimee inquired, "What was Jonathan's call about? Did he need something else?"
"No. He's just jealous."
Aimee looked puzzled.
Beside her, Bethany raised her head, equally baffled by his words.
