Chapter: 1173
She was surprised. "You sent them?"
“Yes! I saw the photos on the forum yesterday. Aimee shared the post with me. You looked lovely with those flowers, so I thought I'd send some as well. Do you Like them?"
"Yes, I do like them."
“That's great! If you ever want more, just tell me. Bethany, please, don't accept flowers from anyone else, okay?"
Bethany finally realized this could easily be misconstrued by her colleagues.
Yesterday at work, carrying those flowers might have given Jonathan the impression that she had accepted a romantic gesture from a male colleague, and now Jayson seemed to think the same.
She considered clarifying but chose to hold back.
This might be the moment to dissuade Jayson's interest.
“Jayson, I can't promise to stay single. If I find someone suitable, I'd consider a serious relationship."
"You've found someone?" he asked in disbelief.
"Not yet, but I'm open to the possibility. We work together, see each other every day; it's natural for feelings to develop. He's kind, thoughtful, and really understands me." As Bethany spoke, her mind inadvertently wandered to Jonathan.
There was a pause on Jayson's end.
Finally, Bethany broke the silence. “Jayson? Is there anything else you needed? If not, I should go."
“Wait! Bethany, even without Jonathan in the picture, would you still overlook me."
Bethany said, “Jayson, we're just friends."
Jayson managed a smile. “How cruel you are!"
"It's the truth! Jayson, you should find someone. I'm not the right person for you, and I don't deserve all you do for me." Bethany's voice hardened, her resolve firming. “Even if I were to marry again, it wouldn't be with you."
Then she ended the call. Just then, a taxi pulled up.
Bethany flagged it down and climbed in.
As the car pulled away, it left the bunch of roses by the roadside.
Meanwhile, Jonathan had seen Bethany's message.
He was reviewing a contract at the time and set his phone aside to continue without replying. He needed to wrap up the pressing tasks before returning home.
When he finally tried to call Bethany back, her line was busy.
Brody entered with documents and cast a nervous glance at his boss, who seemed upset.
