Chapter: 1179
Yet, he had clung to hope, unwilling to let go as long as there was even a sliver of possibility.
But now, resignation had set in, leaving him no choice but to accept the reality.
The following day was Friday. Bethany rose early and headed to the company after getting ready.
She was the first to arrive in the department, enjoying the tranquility of the empty office.
She enjoyed the peacefulness of the quiet. It felt as if the whole world was hers.
She prepared for the morning meeting, organizing all necessary materials, printing thirteen copies, and arranging them neatly on the desk.
Then, she cleaned the office, wiping down surfaces even though cleaners would typically handle it. With the weekend approaching, she wanted everything to be spotless.
After tidying up, Bethany settled back into her chair and checked her phone.
There were no new messages from Jonathan, no videos of the children, and nothing from Brody either.
She speculated that perhaps Brody was instructed not to contact her, but she hesitated to reach out first. They might just be overwhelmed with work, After all, Jonathan usually sent daily updates about Nola and Rowan.
"Ms. Holt, time for the meeting!"
The assistant knocked on the door, snapping Bethany out of her daydream.
She nodded briskly and walked out, clutching a stack of documents.
Aware of the team's hard work this week, Bethany had decided against assigning any overtime for the weekend, allowing everyone some well-deserved rest.
The meeting ran for an hour. Just as she was about to leave following its conclusion, Colt stopped her.
“Bethany, I'll send you the address for tonight's gathering after work. We're having a barbecue!"
"Tonight?"
Usually, these events were scheduled in advance.
"Yes! We're all going together after work. I originally planned it for tomorrow, but several people wanted to spend the weekend with their kids, so we moved it to tonight. Is that convenient for you?"
As the meeting had just ended and the staff were still around, all eyes turned to Bethany.
Feeling too awkward to decline and considering she'd be in this department for another six months, Bethany didn't want to appear unsociable.
She nodded and responded, "No problem. I'll buy coffee for everyone today. Just drop your orders in the group chat!"
"Great! Thank you, Ms. Holt!"
“Thank you, Ms. Holt!"
