Chapter: 126
He didn't step away from Bethany, and he took the call right there.
“Mr. Bates."
At the mention of the name, Bethany instinctively held her breath.
Unfortunately, the voice on the other end was too quiet for her to make out much. Brody replied with just a few words, likely receiving instructions from Jonathan.
The call was brief.
Brody was clearly pleased afterward. "Mr. Bates is incredible. He's just finalized an international cooperation agreement. Import and export trades are always Lucrative."
Bethany felt a sense of pride as well.
She always recognized Jonathan's business acumen. After all, it was his leadership that elevated Bates Group to its current prominence.
"You should work hard and aim to secure a permanent position at the head office," Brody said, clearly holding Bethany in high regard.
Thanks to Bethany's assistance lately, the workflow had significantly sped up. Her contributions had been notably impressive.
"I'm afraid I might not be qualified for a role at the head office,"
Bethany replied modestly.
"As long as the collaboration with Zucron Company proceeds smoothly, and considering your outstanding work on the SNS project, you should consider applying for a transfer to the head office yourself, even if Mr. Bates doesn't suggest it. Don't worry. I'll set up a meeting for you with the HR department.”
This encouragement gave Bethany a boost of confidence.
She sometimes worried that Jonathan might hinder her chances at the head office if he was dissatisfied with her.
“Thank you! Also, the toast was really good. I saw the price on their official website and sent you the money for it."
Brody responded, “I was about to throw it out anyway. Why did you send me money?"
"I purchased it from you. It's better than wasting it." Bethany offered a courteous smile.
Brody refused to accept the money, so Bethany decided she would buy some toast for him tomorrow.
Before he left, Brody paused at the door and added, “By the way, Mr. Bates is scheduled for a remote video conference at eight o'clock tonight. You should join in as well."
She was going to see Jonathan?
Right then, Bethany couldn't quite put her feelings into words. She felt suspended in uncertainty.
She thought about making up an excuse to avoid seeing Jonathan, but she wasn't sure why she felt compelled to avoid him. After all, she needed to resolve things with Jonathan. Whether it was ending their marriage or something else, they were bound to meet sooner or later.
Brody departed right after his announcement, leaving Bethany to ponder the upcoming evening meeting throughout the afternoon.
