Chapter: 149
When Jonathan reached her side and stopped, Bethany felt an overwhelming pressure that almost left her breathless.

She noticed his lips were tightly pressed, and his brow furrowed slightly. The bandage on his handsome face stood out starkly, and he seemed a bit upset, perhaps pondering how to reprimand her.

Bethany, always practical, took the initiative to handle his Luggage.

Her face was tense, and she was at a loss for words.

Then Jonathan said in a grave tone, "If I don't reach out to you, you don't bother calling me, do you?"

Bethany hadn't anticipated such a remark and stood there, stunned, unable to respond.

“Forget it. Just give me the car keys." Jonathan extended his hand towards her. His tall stature blocked the light that should have illuminated her.

“What ?"

“Are we really going to have this conversation at the airport?"

Bethany quickly shook her head and handed him the car keys.

Ultimately, she was in the passenger seat while Jonathan took the wheel.

Wasn't she supposed to pick him up?

On the drive back, Bethany attempted to start a conversation several times, but each time she failed to find the right words and remained silent.

She hadn't expected their reunion to be so awkward. Why did Jonathan seem more helpless than angry?

"Your mother's surgery went well." Jonathan broke the silence first.

“Yes, thank you for finding the doctors. The previous ones were pessimistic about her chances after assessing her condition."

"You thank me, while your mother thanks Jayson."

"Uh..."

Jonathan glanced at her through the rearview mirror and asked, “Am I wrong?"

Bethany suddenly realized that this issue mattered deeply to him. It seemed that he was ready to confront the matter and settle scores with her.

Nevertheless, she decided to clarify things.

"Here's what happened. My mother found out I married someone for money. She thought I was compromising myself, so she refused the surgery. I had no option but to have Aimee's cousin pretend to be my husband."

"Well, that's a solid reason."

Jonathan's tone was deep and emotionless, betraying no feelings.
