Chapter: 159
Yes, the feeling was unmistakable. It was a sense of loss.

She couldn't deny it to herself.

When Bethany returned to the room, Jonathan had already changed and was sitting on the edge of the bed, waiting for her to apply the ointment.

Bethany approached slowly, avoiding looking at Jonathan's noticeable bulge.

"Did the doctor mention if this would scar?" To sidestep any awkwardness, Bethany initiated a conversation.

"I didn't ask." Jonathan then asked, "Do scars bother you?"

Bethany remained quiet. What did that have to do with her?

“If you don't like it, there might be ways to treat it." Back in the hospital, Jonathan had been more concerned with his annoyance and frustration than the injury itself.

Bethany hadn't messaged or called him since he woke up.

“Did the car accident happen because you were rushing to the hospital to see me?"

Bethany posed the question after a moment's hesitation.

Jonathan's gaze settled on her face.

If she hadn't mentioned it, he might have just let the whole incident slide. Seeing Bethany today and deciding to take her with him, he thought they still had a long road ahead.

He needed to be patient.

But now that she brought it up, Jonathan sat up and asked, "Why did you have Jayson pretend to be your husband without even asking me once?"

Bethany scrambled for a response. “You're always so busy. How could I bother you with something so minor?"

“Bethany! How many times have I told you that you can turn to me whenever you're in trouble?"

“But this problem isn't simple. If I brought you along, I'd have to explain to my mother how you changed from being my boss to my husband, and..."

Her mother was so difficult that Bethany couldn't bear to bring Jonathan to meet her.

Bethany already felt guilty for involving Jayson in this.

"You don't believe that we can tackle any challenge together, do you?" he asked.

Bethany blinked and met Jonathan's eyes.

She remained silent for a moment and then nodded.

"No, I don't believe we can." Bethany pursed her lips. "You are a golden boy everyone looks up to. We live in different worlds. Your time is consumed by managing the company, and the issues I face are messy and minor, and they can't be fixed with money."
