Mia rolled her eyes and rested her head against the car window. "Who said I'd have kids with you? Keep dreaming!"

"I've only ever loved you. And I always will. If you won't have children with me, who will? The Bates family line ends with us if not."

Mia snorted. "How can I be sure you haven't been with other women? It's not like you can prove it."

Rowland abruptly stopped the car and pulled over. His face grew stern, and the lines of his expression sharpened with intensity. "I've never been with anyone else! Everyone who knows me can attest to that."

Mia didn't actually doubt him. She just enjoyed stirring him up and didn't expect he would take her words seriously.
