Chapter: 271
Bethany had never objected any of Marie's demands, even the ridiculous ones. She always tried to comply at her expense to make Marie happy. She did all that because she didn't want to worsen Marie's health. All she wanted was to see her recover from the illness.

Her priority at that time was her recovery, which later shifted to her gaining financial security and have a home of her own. She didn't want a rented apartment. She wanted a family of her own.

Now that she and Jonathan were together, she wanted to have a family with him.

After they had breakfast, Jonathan drove Bethany to the company.

“I may not come home today because I'll be out of town for a meeting. I hope to come back in the afternoon if my schedule permits me. But if it's not possible, I'll have to come back tomorrow."

Jonathan was so responsible. He narrated his itinerary and plans to her like a husband would do to his wife.

Bethany smiled. "Business travels like this aren't so unusual to you, are they? Don't worry about me, okay? Go ahead and focus on work. I'll be just fine. I can go back on my own after work."

"Alright, then. Remember, if someone knocks on the door, don't open it."

Jonathan feared his mother or Maddie might cause trouble for her.

The moment Jonathan's car was out of her sight, Bethany, smiling, turned around to head back to the company.

Suddenly, Maddie came out of thin air, approaching on her high heels.

Bethany was not in the right mood to deal with her. She was very occupied and couldn't afford to fight with Maddie.

"Don't worry, you don't need to keep away from me. This is the last time you'll have to deal with me like this." Maddie had this soft floral scent which got stronger as she came closer.

Bethany found the scent so unpleasant. She stepped back a little and asked, "What is this about now?"

"Stay away from Jonathan. Otherwise, you'll face very severe consequences," Maddie said with an intimidating look.

Bethany couldn't help but feel dejected as she heard her words, even though Maddie didn't sound violent whatsoever.

“What do you intend to do again? Maddie, I've never done anything to harm you or put you in danger. You and your mother have already stolen my father from my mother and me, but you still look for ways to intimidate and set me up. Bear in mind that I'm not an easy prey,"

Bethany said seriously as her patience was wearing thin.

However, Maddie just smiled. "You and your mother took something that didn't belong to you. You'll have to give it back sooner or later, or you'll face the consequences. This has nothing to do with me; it's due to you and your mother's insatiable appetite for greediness."

“Don't you dare speak about my mother in such manner!" Bethany howled.

Maddie raised her hands up in the air. “Okay. I've relayed the information I wanted to convey to you and my assignment here is accomplished. I can take my leave now. Bethany, if Jonathan's father didn't insist on me coming here, I wouldn't have come."

Bethany asked with her brows arched, "You were sent here by Jonathan's father?"

"What were you expecting? That I'd really be accommodating enough to remind you times without number not to get on the nerves of the Bates family? If there is anything I wish for so badly, it's to see you and your mother thrown out of the city." Maddie turned around to leave but stopped after taking a few steps backwards. She turned to look back and said, "I'm being honest with you. This is the last time."

Bethany had a busy day ahead. Perhaps Brody wanted her to get accustomed with the complete project, so he gave the reports to her.
