Chapter: 367
Loudly so that they could hear, she said, “Hello, I'd like to report a disturbance! There are some people over here constituting a nuisance."
As the man approached, his expression fierce and determined, he quickly closed the distance between them. Without uttering a word, he snatched Bethany's mobile phone and hurled it forcefully.
The phone shattered into pieces on impact.
In that moment, Bethany realized she had underestimated the hostility of these individuals.
“It's illegal to destroy someone else's property."
“And what about you cheating us out of our money? How much does that phone cost anyway?"
Bethany's brow furrowed. “If you believe what you're doing is justified, why not let me call the police? You should want the police to enforce the law and seek justice on your behalf!"
"Who knows if the police are in your pocket?" He then turned and yelled to those gathered, “This woman has conspired with insiders to swindle us, and she's the director. She must have pocketed all the money that rightfully belongs to us!"
At his shout, several burly men charged towards Bethany.
It was early morning, and the security guards had not yet started their shifts. Colt tried to intervene, but he was no match for the rugged laborers accustomed to physical work.
“Hey, what are you doing? Attacking someone is illegal!" Bethany cried out as she took a few steps back, losing her footing and falling to the ground.
Before she could finish speaking, a sharp pain shot through her scalp.
Lifting her head, she saw a man gripping her hair tightly, attempting to drag her towards the angry crowd.
Bethany struggled to free herself as more hands reached out to grab her. Even Colt was knocked to the ground.
Bethany wanted to call for help, but she knew all too well that in the construction site at this hour, no one would come to her aid.
Pain radiated throughout her body.
A blow to the back of her head made her dizzy, and consciousness began to slip away.
She attempted to remain calm, aware that losing control could prove fatal given the hostility around her. However, the severity of her injuries made it impossible to stay composed.
Through the haze, Bethany thought she heard a low, familiar voice.
He was telling her not to be afraid, that he was on his way...
Her body felt increasingly light, as if she were about to float away.
She attempted to grasp something, but to no avail.
She was unable to move her body.
Bethany felt increasingly desperate. It was as if invisible restraints held her down.
