Chapter: 37
When he saw the announcement that morning, he almost burst into laughter.

Seeing that Jonathan didn't answer, he wriggled his brows mischievously and continued, “Let me guess. You're so deeply in love with her that you can't bear to be separated from her, is that it? That's why you want to create more intimate interactions with her, right?"

Nikolas used to think that Jonathan was like a rock-very hard and devoid of emotion. Just like a monk who had no desire for anything, Jonathan had no interest in the opposite sex.

Now, he realized that Jonathan wasn't indifferent towards woman after all-it just depended on the girl he was facing.

In fact, it seemed that Jonathan was quite invested in this one girl.

Previously, Jonathan had even changed their meeting venue to the same place Bethany was meeting Kendon, just so he could secretly keep an eye on her from afar.

Who was this Bethany? And how had she managed to get him wrapped around her finger?

"You busy?" Jonathan turned a deaf ear to Nikolas' teasing, staying laser focused as he worked.

"Of course I'm busy." With a snort, Nikolas approached Jonathan's desk and waved his hand in front of Jonathan's face, momentarily distracting him from his work. "Why'd you stop the news about Kendon harassing Bethany from spreading? We could've used this scandal to force Zucron Company to sign the contract."

Jonathan, who was busy signing some documents just now, paused, his hand holding the pen hovering over the paper. “Bethany's reputation would've suffered.”

So, it turned out to be a matter of the girl's reputation.

Although Jonathan was born into a rich and sheltered family, he was smart enough to foresee that if word got out about this scandal, employees from both Ensson Corporation and Zucron Company would gossip about it feverishly.

In the end, the truth would twisted beyond repair, and Bethany wouldn't be able to defend herself.

Nikolas' eyebrows shot up in surprise. Clearly, such a thought had never occurred to him before. He couldn't help but look at his friend with newfound respect.

“But why don't you tell Bethany about what you've done for her?" he continued. “I'm sure she'll appreciate it.”

"I don't need her to know."

Nikolas was flabbergasted. “Then how will she ever fall in love with you?"

A faint smile played at the corners of Jonathan's Lips. “You don't understand her," he replied simply, as though this simple sentence was enough to explain everything.

He had to tread carefully with Bethany.

If he was too bold and openly showed his love, it wouldn't win her over; it would drive her away. Bethany was insecure and overly defensive, making her a tough nut to crack. Winning her heart wouldn't be easy.

But at least now, they were married, and that gave him a bigger chance.

When he received her text that fateful night, Jonathan had made up his mind not to let her slip away.

That evening, Bethany had to get off work early, so she passed her remaining tasks to another assistant and hurried to the bus stop.

But, to her dismay, she missed the last bus to the hospital by a few minutes.
