Chapter: 435
"I'm sorry to bother you so late!"
“It's no problem. Where are you now?" Bethany whispered, mindful of not disturbing others.
"I'm near Woodhill Road. I can't seem to get a taxi back to the hotel."
Bethany quickly looked up the hotel on her map and gave him precise directions, explaining each turn carefully.
"Did you get all that?" she asked to confirm.
"Yes, I'm listening," the driver assured her.
"That should get you there. If you still can't find it, send me another message, or try reaching the main street to catch a taxi."
“Okay.”
Bethany glanced at her watch and offered, “Since you're also in Brokdon, should I bring the invoice to you tomorrow?"
"No need," the driver quickly replied. “I'll ask for it if I need it."
Bethany was puzzled.
She had unfriended before, and he had re-added her specifically to retrieve this invoice.
Now, despite her repeated offers to hand it over, he seemed to delay it, as if it wasn't urgent.
"Thank you," said the driver.
"Not at all," Bethany replied before he hung up.
Confused and unsettled, Bethany didn't dwell on it further.
She rose from the bench and began walking back to the ward when she suddenly heard a noise behind her-something being kicked.
It sounded alarmingly close.
What could that be in the middle of the night?
Frightened and lacking the courage to investigate, she quickened her pace.
Just a few paces later, she collided with something solid... A chest!
Startled, Bethany looked up to see Jaden.
“Ms. Holt, are you okay?"
"Yes," Bethany replied, visibly relieved to see him. "I just got a bit scared walking around the hospital at night! What about you? Is everything okay? Did Liza wake up?"
