Chapter: 441
Hearing this, Brenden softened his demeanor and finished his glass of wine. He then turned to Jaden and reassured, "Don't worry. Both of you are here. If Ms. Holt happens to drink too much later, you can ensure she gets back safely."
With his extensive professional experience, Brenden was well aware of their concerns.
While he found Bethany impressive and attractive, he prioritized the business cooperation over personal interests. He wouldn't jeopardize his or his company's reputation.
Yet, being under suspicion could still be frustrating.
"I'm sorry, Mr. Lewis," Jaden apologized immediately.
Bethany wasn't exaggerating. She genuinely struggled with alcohol.
Despite her extensive experience in the workplace, she had never developed a tolerance for drinking.
She had hoped to endure the gathering briefly and leave, but then a senior manager from Owlimited Company joined them.
As soon as the portly man appeared, Bethany knew it would be a challenging evening.
Before she felt too affected by the alcohol, she excused herself to the bathroom and sent a voice message to the driver in Westsilver.
Shortly, the call connected.
“Have you found your way?" Bethany asked, feeling a bit clearer after splashing cold water on her face.
She thought she sounded normal, but the driver detected something off after just one sentence.
"You've been drinking."
It wasn't a question.
"Yes, I had a little. It's okay, I'm still lucid. Tell me where you are, and I'll direct you."
She tried to remain helpful despite the situation.
The driver paused before he said, "As a woman, you shouldn't be out drinking with men."
Bethany chuckled and reassured, “Thank you for your concern. It's alright. My colleague is here too. He'll drive me back."
Male colleague?
It must be Jaden.
Jonathan wasn't convinced that Jaden escorting her back was safe.
“I have a friend in Brokdon. I'll ask him to pick you up."
"No, thanks! Just tell me where you are first. I made an excuse to step out. I need to return now."
