Chapter: 442
While they spoke, Liza was searching for Bethany.
Bethany realized that the leader at Owlimited Company had likely inquired about her, prompting her to say to the driver, "Sir... You might want to ask someone else for now. I need to handle something, so I'm going to hang up."
She ended the call before the man on the other end could respond.
Liza approached, sighing. "They are so tough to negotiate with!"
“It's all part of the job."
“Ms. Holt, were you on the phone with your husband just now?"
Bethany was taken aback and quickly clarified, "No, that was a friend. He got lost here in Brokdon and was asking for directions."
Liza raised an eyebrow. “Doesn't he have a smartphone? He could just use a map app!"
Bethany paused.
That was a good point.
Nowadays, everyone had a smartphone capable of navigation.
If his phone wasn't smart, he wouldn't have been able to make a voice call.
"Be careful, he might have other intentions!" Liza said playfully, half-serious. "Ms. Holt, you're attractive, and men notice that. Like how Brenden and his boss look at you. I can tell."
After washing her hands, Bethany smiled dismissively, "No, he's much older than me! Maybe he's just not tech-savvy with navigation apps."
She genuinely believed the driver was decent.
He had been very forthright about settling compensation after a car accident. Just now, he had expressed concern for her safety in a completely respectful manner, even offering to have someone drive her back.
Besides, she was almost certain the driver was married. If he had married young, his child could easily be around ten years old by now.
Bethany walked back to the table and saw Brenden eagerly serving drinks to his boss. He quickly made space for her to sit beside the boss as soon as he noticed her.
Bethany was all too familiar with this kind of workplace harassment.
She chose to ignore the gesture and returned to her original seat.
Brenden looked at his boss, relieved to see no hint of annoyance.
"Ms. Holt, Mr. Byrd has been complimenting you! He admires your image and demeanor, and he believes your skills must be outstanding for you to have become project director at such a young age."
"Mr. Byrd flatters me too much; I hardly deserve such praise. Here's to you, Mr. Byrd." Bethany offered a polite smile and lifted her glass.
Wesley Byrd was delighted and nodded enthusiastically. "Alright! I'll drink to that."
