Chapter: 459
"Then let it be, Ryan. Please, don't be so impulsive next time. I'm just an employee. I don't want any special treatment. There are already plenty of rumors swirling around me at the company. You, in your high position, might not hear them, but I can't afford to ignore them."
"Who has been talking about you? I'll take care of it!"
"Don't intervene. I can handle it myself! I just want to ensure that boundaries are maintained so it doesn't complicate my situation."
Ryan looked as though he wanted to continue the conversation, but Bethany raised her hand to stop him. "I'm feeling quite exhausted and need some rest. You should get back to your responsibilities. Since our collaboration has fallen apart, I'll be returning with Jaden and Liza as soon as possible."
She was effectively dismissing Ryan now, as she had more pressing issues to resolve.
She needed to connect with the driver from Westsilver to determine if he had been involved in anything suspicious...
Bethany scratched her head irritably.
She believed it couldn't be true. The driver seemed like a straightforward person. If he had intended any harm, he could have approached her back in Westsilver rather than in Brokdon.
She couldn't accuse someone innocent without cause.
Bethany pulled out her phone and looked up the driver's contact.
“Hello, thank you so much for last night! I'm not sure if you're free, but I'd like to invite you to dinner to personally express my gratitude."
After a considerable pause, a response finally came.
“Okay, but it'll have to be a bit later, I'm currently tied up with something."
“Take your time with your tasks! Just let me know when you're available."
Jonathan was keenly aware that Bethany would demand to meet the driver, and declining would undoubtedly pique her suspicion.
Truthfully, this was the first instance in his life where he had the nerve to do something yet lacked the courage to own up to it.
The crux of the matter was that he didn't have the words to explain it to Bethany.
She was drunk, having consumed spiked alcohol, while he remained stone-cold sober.
Pondering this, Jonathan pressed his temples with force, the pain relentless, pulsating incessantly.
The moral condemnation within him was a ceaseless torment. He longed to come clean to Bethany, to lay bare the truth, but the fear of her hatred gripped him tightly.
The mere thought of facing her made his stomach churn.
Brody escorted the driver to Brokdon Airport and was genuinely taken aback to see his boss's car parked at the entrance.
As a secretary, it was unheard of for the boss to personally pick someone up from the airport.
Once in the car, Brody quickly addressed Jonathan, who was in the driver's seat. "Mr. Bates, allow me to drive."
