Chapter: 472
Rowan was so young. He could easily encounter dangerous people.
Bethany couldn't bear to think any further.
When they reached the airport, Ryan remained silent. He simply helped her with her Luggage and watched as she passed through security before leaving.
Once seated in the lounge, Bethany called Jayson. "Did you find Rowan?"
"No! He took his ID card and passport with him. It looks like he planned to go home."
Bethany frowned. "He's too young for this. They won't let him board at the airport!"
“I really hope that's the case. I'm at the airport right now, and there are only a few flights back home. I'll hang around a bit longer."
"Did he leave any hints that he might run away? Did he mention anything to you?" Bethany's voice grew hoarse as she spoke. She felt an urgent need to get on a flight abroad.
Jayson hesitated before speaking. "I bought him some new clothes, and he seemed really happy. He wished I were his father. After that, he went off to do his homework. I didn't hear anything from his room, so I figured he must have gone to bed right after. But when I opened the door, I discovered he wasn't there. He must have jumped out of the window, leaving only a note behind.”
“Did he skip finishing his homework and run away to avoid his teacher checking on him?" Bethany believed that kids might leave for reasons Like those.
"That's impossible. Rowan always finishes his homework in no time, and the teacher doesn't push him to do it. He's both intelligent and astute. The material at school barely challenges him," said Jayson.
Bethany's temples pulsed.
Had Rowan been anywhere to be found, and had she not needed to maintain her composure, she might have given in to the overwhelming urge to collapse when Jayson's call came through; standing was becoming more difficult by the second.
“Jayson, everything's in your hands now. You have to help me find him."
"I'll give it everything I've got!" To me, Rowan is like my own son.
Bethany knew he must have been searching relentlessly; yet, Rowan was always one to march to the beat of his own drum. Perhaps he had inherited that trait; his behaviors were hardly typical for a child of his age.
Just as she ended her call with Jayson, Aimee was on the other Line.
“Any news? Jayson's line is still engaged; it's really starting to worry me!"
“He was on the phone with me a moment ago," Bethany replied, glancing nervously at her boarding time. "We haven't found Rowan yet. I'm flying back right now to meet up with you, and we'll head over together."
“Got it. I've got everything ready for Nola. We can head out any time!" There was an urgency in Aimee's voice that usually wasn't there. Normally so composed, the news of Rowan's disappearance had shaken her as though she had lost her own child.
"Thanks for looking after Nola."
"At a time like this, don't mention it!"
After the call, Bethany couldn't remain seated; she paced the airport terminal back and forth.
ALL she wanted was a call from Jayson to tell her that Rowan was safe; she could hardly bear to hear anything else.
