Chapter: 481
Brody understood Jonathan's need for cleanliness and his specific food preferences. However, Brody didn't mind eating simple meals.
"I can't eat this much. We can discuss work while we eat."
Brody had to agree since Jonathan wanted to discuss about work.
"Alright, Mr. Bates. Thank you!"
Jonathan, who wanted to discuss business matters, didn't feel Like talking about it the moment they sat down.
Brody wanted to know if Jonathan would stay here to keep an eye on Bethany or head back to Odonset tomorrow, so he could make reservations for plane tickets in advance.
Brody didn't ask Jonathan because he felt Jonathan had not yet made a decision. He resolved within himself to wait and let Jonathan make a decision first.
"Ahem... Mr. Bates, concerning the project in Westsilver..."
Brody wanted to initiate a conversation, but Jonathan cut in before he could finish his words. "Do you consider me a stupid person?"
Brody pondered over it for a few seconds, then he finally gave out a deep sigh. "Mr. Bates, if you're feeling broken-hearted, it means you genuinely love her."
“But Bethany doesn't have feelings for me."
Brody paused for a moment, scared he might say the wrong things.
Jonathan poured himself a glass of wine, wearing a heartbreaking smile, then chugged the drink down his throat. “Whatever I'm doing is worthless. The more I yearn to see her, the more I see reasons not to see her. But each time I lay my eyes on her, I always have this urge to go after her."
Since his birth till his coming of age, it was only Bethany that could drive him insane.
He knew exactly what to do, but he couldn't restrain himself.
“Mr. Bates, Bethany has moved on and started a whole new life. It's high time you moved on with yours."
"Yes, it's time to let go." Jonathan truly tried to let go and move on.
Brody smiling, poured himself a glass of wine. "Mr. Bates, this is the first time we're drinking wine with no one else present."
“Yes, and you've put in a lot of effort into the company over the years."
Brody shook his head as he smiled. "No, it's all thanks to you that I'm where I am today. And even over the years, it has never crossed my mind to leave you or the company."
Jonathan had no idea why Brody brought that up all of a sudden, so he kept quiet and bent his head to drink.
"Mr. Bates, you are a good man, be it at work or outside work. I think you should find a new relationship that makes you happy. I always thought Bethany was the one for you because whenever you were with her, you were always beaming with smiles. But now, I doubt she is the one."
Regardless of the fact that he didn't know what was going on, the frustration and disappointment his boss felt was so glaring.
Jonathan kept mute and continued to drown himself in alcohol.
