Chapter: 482
Brody knew it was worthless trying to console him, so he sat tight and allowed him to think it through. He bent his head and drank with him, one glass after another.
At the end of everything, they didn't touch the food, but the bottle of wine was empty.
“Mr. Bates, you should rest. Tomorrow, let's head back to Odonset, shall we?"
Jonathan hesitated a little bit, then nodded. "Okay."
He saw Brody out, after which he headed to the bathroom to freshen up before he lay on the bed.
However, he was so restless, not able to fall asleep.
He kept wondering if the child Bethany was concerned about had been found.
Seemingly irritated, he took out his phone to check if he had any messages, and the first thing he saw was a photo Nikolas had sent.
He tapped on the message, and a child's face came on the screen.
Jonathan's face turned sour instantly, and his pupils constricted.
This boy indeed looked like him.
The eyebrows, the mouth, and the eyes looked exactly like his.
But how was it possible that he had a son? He had only been intimate with Bethany.
After a brief pause, Jonathan dialed Nikolas’ number.
The phone rang several times before connecting.
Background noise surrounded Nikolas, suggesting he was at a social gathering; the distinct clink of glasses hinted he was out drinking.
“Where are you?" Jonathan asked.
“Out drinking! A friend just returned from overseas. We're catching up!"
Jonathan's brow furrowed as he asked, "The photo of the child you sent-was it altered?"
Nikolas sounded surprised and his voice rose as he responded, "Come on, why would I do that? I had to work late today, and this kid showed up at the office. The security must have thought he resembled you, so they brought him to me."
"Where is the child now?"
“He's right here! He said he doesn't know his mother's name, just that he looks like his father. I couldn't just leave him outside, could 1?"
Despite the prearranged gathering, Nikolas had no option but to take the child along.
"You brought a child to a bar?"
