Nikolas surveyed the nearly barren surroundings, his brow furrowed.

"You've got a knack for picking out spots for yourself, don't you?"

Maddie shot him a look, annoyed. "Quit mocking me. If you don't want to help, just go and leave me to die out here alone!"

“But I didn't say anything!"

Nikolas smirked, started the car, and pulled up the navigation to head to the hospital.

Before he could drive off, his phone rang.

Suddenly, Maddie reached out, grabbing his arm. "Ouch! It hurts!"

Nikolas thought Maddie was genuinely suffering, so he set aside concerns about his phone and drove straight to the hospital.

Upon arrival, he rushed Maddie to the cardiology unit.

Exhausted and drenched in sweat after ensuring she was taken care of, Nikolas finally sat down to rest. That was when he remembered that someone had tried to call him earlier.

He pulled out his phone and saw missed calls from his assistant and a message from Jonathan.

Jonathan's message read, "I'm boarding now. Heading back to Odonset. Let me know when you get this."

Just as Nikolas was about to respond to Jonathan, his assistant called again.

Nikolas wondered if there might be an issue with the little boy; perhaps he was causing trouble.

“Hello? What's going on?"

"Mr. Bennett! You asked me to go to the hotel to look after the child. I'm here, but there's no kid in this room!"

Nikolas jumped up from his seat in alarm. “What did you say?"

“There's no child in the room. I tried calling you but got no response. I spoke with the hotel reception, and they told me a man came and took the child away!"

Nikolas' heart sank.

Had he just lost Jonathan's son?

"Go look for him! Check the surveillance footage; see where the man took the child. You must find him!"

"Yes, Mr. Bennett."

After ending the call, Nikolas' hands trembled.

If he revealed to Jonathan that the boy had gone missing...
