Chapter: 507
This time, he picked up.

"Mom," Jonathan greeted.

"Do you even remember that I'm your mother? Why did you hang up on me?" Francine began questioning him. “Are you trying to cut off your own mother now?"

Jonathan's expression turned serious, sensing the real motive behind the call.

The only one who could have influenced his mother to call at this time was Maddie.

“Do you need something? I'm quite busy right now," Jonathan said.

“What are you busy with? Busy looking for some child that might not even be yours?"

"Yes," Jonathan confirmed plainly. "Since he resembles me, there's a chance he's my son. I need to find out."

Francine was so enraged she nearly booked a flight back to the country right then.

"I won't accept an illegitimate child. Don't talk nonsense. Are you trying to kill me with stress?"

“This issue isn't open for debate. If he is my son, it's my duty to take care of him."

"Then who's the child's mother? Who else have you been involved with besides Bethany?"

Jonathan pursed his lips tightly, choosing not to respond.

Quick to catch on, Francine concluded the answer. “Only Bethany? So the child is Bethany's as well?"

“No, I haven't confirmed that yet," Jonathan quickly denied, worried that his mother might take action and harm Bethany.

The fewer people targeting Bethany, the safer she would be.

"You don't know who you've slept with?" Francine asked, clearly shocked.

"Yeah, I'm not sure, so I need to look into it."

"You've disappointed Maddie deeply! You've been married twice and now you might have an illegitimate child. I don't know how I can even face Maddie. She has been waiting for you all this time!" Francine said, her voice laden with empathy for Maddie. It was as though Maddie was her own daughter. “You made the mistake of marrying Bethany, and she left you, didn't she? I encouraged Maddie to get close to you, but she feared you would resent her, so she gave you space to cool off. Then, out of nowhere, you announced you were marrying someone else."

After Francine finished, she began coughing violently.

Aware that his mother's health was fragile, Jonathan refrained from arguing. He needed to ensure Bethany wasn't further implicated in these issues.

“Mom, please see a doctor. I'll manage things here," Jonathan urged.

"Oh, I trusted you! And your way of managing things was to let Maddie down. I'm still reeling from the shock of your sudden wedding announcement, and now you spring an illegitimate child on me. How am I supposed to ask Maddie to marry you?"

"I have no plans to marry her. I don't understand why you're pushing us together!"
