Chapter: 508
Jonathan was bewildered by his mother's insistence. Such a preference shouldn't drive her to manipulate her own son like this.

Francine paused but offered no clarification. "I just like her!" she just said.

Jonathan was at a loss for words.

It was evident that his mother was keeping something from him.

"What is it about Maddie that bothers you? Just tell me! She's gorgeous, talented, and skilled. She seems perfect for me."

"There's a flaw in her character," Jonathan replied.

“And Bethany's character is better? She only agreed to marry you for your money. A woman who trades her marriage for cash. Do you think she's truly virtuous?" Francine was no fool. She had thoroughly researched and discovered that Bethany had consented to marry Jonathan because she needed funds for her mother's medical expenses.

Bethany's primary aim was to secure money.

"I believe Bethany is good. That's all that matters to me. I don't care about others' opinions."

"Yous"

“Mom, I'm not going to marry Maddie."

Even though he had repeated this to Francine numerous times, he reiterated his stance.

“Then don't call me mother anymore!"

Enraged, Francine ended the call abruptly. Jonathan frowned, feeling distressed.

He knew that this could trigger another depressive episode for Francine, potentially landing her in the hospital. She might even risk her life.

He didn't want to upset his mother, but he was also determined not to compromise his own desires.

Shortly after hanging up, Jonathan noticed a doctor hurrying towards him with a stack of papers.

“I've got it! Mr. Bates, I've found it!"

Maddie, unsure of whom to ask for assistance, reached out to Francine.

She realized that even if Francine could coerce Jonathan into marrying her, it wouldn't solve her underlying issues, but Francine's support could at least help her navigate this difficult period.

"Jonathan is out of his mind. Don't worry. I'll handle your worries,"

Francine reassured Maddie.

“Okay, thank you, Francine. I'm really sorry for troubling you."

“It's not your fault. You're doing this for Jonathan," Francine responded. "By the way, I need to know the truth. Where is the child? Do you know?"
