Chapter: 557
ALL of Nikolas’ family, including his parents, had to wait outside.
Jonathan had arranged for someone to pick them up from the airport and take them straight to the hospital.
"What happened? Jonathan, what did the doctors say about my son?"
Gilda Bennett, Nikolas' mother, was visibly distressed, her eyes red from crying and her hands shaking as she held onto Jonathan.
He was the only child of the Bennett family.
"I've organized for top doctors from overseas to consult on his case. He'll get the best care possible." Jonathan, unsure of what to say, chose to show his support through his actions rather than words.
Kai Bennett, Nikolas’ father, appearing more controlled, stood quietly by the ICU door, his face set in a serious expression.
Soon after, Maddie arrived.
She was even more visibly upset than Gilda, sobbing as she approached.
"Mr. Bennett, Mrs. Bennett, I'm so sorry!" Maddie exclaimed, and in her high heels, she walked over and knelt before them.
Her actions took the Bennett family by surprise.
"What are you doing?" Gilda tried to lift her up, but Maddie stayed on her knees.
"Mrs. Bennett, I feel partly to blame for Nikolas' accident! It happened because of a disagreement between Jonathan and me. Nikolas came to talk to me. We argued, and he left upset. He was probably too distracted to pay attention to the road when he drove off to find Jonathan..."
Gilda, though confused, understood the main idea.
She looked at Jonathan with a frown. "You two had a disagreement, and Nikolas, being the caring person he is, got involved because he cared for both of you!"
Gilda's words carried a hint of blame.
She believed the quarrel between the couple led to her son lying in the ICU. That situation would make anyone uneasy.
"Jonathan, is this true?" Kai asked, unmoved by Maddie's words, and he didn't help her to her feet.
He disliked Maddie because he thought she was too calculating. He chose to believe Jonathan's words.
“Maddie, are you claiming that Nikolas‘ accident happened because he didn't see the cars coming?" Jonathan asked Maddie instead of answering Kai. “I reviewed the surveillance footage. It clearly shows a car speeding and crashing into him, causing the accident. You're twisting the truth."
"I...I didn't mean that! I wasn't aware of the specifics or the footage, so I assumed he missed seeing the car," Maddie said, clearly agitated.
Jonathan sneered, his dark eyes fixed on her with a glare. “You're only saying this to save yourself, hoping to convince his parents you were unaware."
Maddie, caught in her own deception, began to panic but attempted to maintain her composure. “Jonathan, what are you saying? Do you believe I'm responsible for Nikolas' accident?"
"We will let the authorities handle the investigation. There's no place for drama here."
