Chapter: 558
Gilda and Kai clearly overheard their conversation.
While Kai remained composed, Gilda was noticeably taken aback.
"You're married, aren't you? Why do you talk to each other in such a manner?"
“I'm not married to Maddie," Jonathan said bluntly, without concern for Maddie's reputation. “As for Nikolas‘ situation, I will thoroughly investigate and talk to the doctors. Once he wakes up, the truth will be revealed."
Gilda gave a nod and cast a skeptical glance at Maddie, who was still on her knees.
"You should stand up! If you're not involved, there's no reason for this. Our family won't accuse an innocent person." Of course, this was only if she had no part in it.
The situation unfolding was far from the scenario Maddie had anticipated, placing her in an uncomfortable predicament.
She was uncertain whether to rise or remain kneeling.
Just then, visiting hours for the ICU began; Kai and Gilda entered to see their son, leaving Maddie behind.
Once they were inside, Jonathan approached Maddie and said quietly, "Your performance is a bit much."
"I truly am sorry! Believe it or not," Maddie said.
"I rely only on facts." Jonathan began to walk away, paused, then turned back to face her. “Maddie, you better hope your claim about Rowan being your child isn't true."
At his words, Maddie looked up sharply.
Confronted with Jonathan's cold glare, she instinctively flinched.
“I was merely following your parents' wishes. If there's someone to blame, blame them, not me!"
“If that turns out to be true, I will hold everyone accountable, including my parents," Jonathan said.
"They're your parents! What will you do?"
Jonathan's lips twisted slightly. "Things won't turn out as you expect. I have made myself clear before-I will never marry anyone who has hurt Bethany."
Maddie had never heard Jonathan speak this way before. She always thought he would tolerate his parents endlessly.
Now, his voice was cold. It felt like he was ready to sacrifice his parents for justice.
She felt scared. She realized her lies had become so absurd that even Jonathan's parents couldn't protect her anymore.
Jonathan left the hospital and slid into his car.
Brody looked at his boss through the rearview mirror. "Mr. Bates, I have some news about Rowan's disappearance from the hospital. Our team has found an address."
He shared the location with Jonathan.
