Chapter: 583
On most occasions, the only individuals present on the CEO's office floor were Jonathan and Brody. Before anyone could enter, they needed to obtain Jonathan's approval.

As such, it was clear that no one could come to her rescue now.

Without even realizing it, she took a few steps backward to put a safe distance between the two of them.

Bethany was determined to ensure that her relationship with Jonathan was not misconstrued. She felt it was important to be mindful of his wife's feelings.

Being a woman herself, Bethany couldn't shake the feeling that his wife would feel upset if she found out that he was spending time alone with his ex-wife.

She had no idea who his new wife was, though.

“What's the matter? Why'd you step back?"

"I didn't step back."

Jonathan knew just how stubborn she was. He knew she wouldn't admit it, so he simply raised his eyebrows and said to her, “Go in. We need to talk."

He walked towards the office door, but he didn't hear any footsteps behind him.

“Talk? You can say what you want to say here. No one else is listening to us."

“Bethany.” When Jonathan turned around, he happened to be standing under the light. The golden light bathed him in a warm and gentle glow, creating a mesmerizing effect. It almost appeared as if there were twinkling stars nestled within his deep-set, entrancing eyes.

Bethany was left in a trance when she saw this.

“I wasn't asking for your opinion. Or have you forgotten your place?"

She was just the project director. How dare she talk back to the president? He had to remind her that they were still at the company, and she worked under him.

Bethany was left with no other choice but to give in.

She knew for a fact that he did it on purpose.

Bethany hesitantly trailed behind Jonathan as he led her into his office. As he shut the door behind them, she couldn't help but notice that the office seemed frozen in time, the display inside unchanged from a few years ago.

He never liked doing too much. He preferred things simple. Besides, what mattered the most was that everything was tidy and clean.

He made sure the documents were neatly organized on the desk, and he took the time to arrange the pens as well.

Bethany's eyes subconsciously landed on a photo frame as she Looked forward.

It was a girl in the photo, as the hem of a dress implied.

As Bethany leaned in for a closer look at the woman's face, Jonathan suddenly approached and turned over the photo frame on the desk.

"I have decided to shift your focus away from the Westsilver project. Instead, your expertise is needed on a shopping mall development case in Odonset. Your new assignment is to work on this case moving forward."
