His towering presence created a strong sense of oppression, enough to make people tremble.

Bethany was no exception. She instinctively took a few steps back, trying to evade him.

But she had only taken a few steps before her back hit the wall. She was trapped!

"What are you doing?" Her gaze flitted around the room like a nervous bird.

"I'm making things clear." His eyes bore into hers, his voice low and compelling, each word striking her heart. “This isn't the ‘wrong idea’.

Bethany looked up at him, trembling slightly and at a loss for words.

“I'm secretly in love with you. Didn't you know this already?"

Without uttering a word, Bethany fled from the CEO's office in a state of disarray.

Even after getting into the elevator, she had to clutch her heaving chest to anchor herself in reality, as though to check if her heart was still beating.

What did Jonathan just say to her?

She must've hallucinated back there. Yes, it had to be a trick of the mind!

“Hey, Bethany!"

The elevator had reached the ground floor lobby, and Colt happened to be on his way out.

Bethany, still in a daze, only stopped when he grabbed her arm.

“What's up with you?"

"Nothing."

Colt looked her up and down, raising an eyebrow in suspicion. "So, what did Mr. Bates want to tell you? Did he give you a cushy job up in management? I've always been good to you at Goldwald Company. Please don't forget me once you've climbed the ladder of success!"

Bethany averted her gaze and nodded stiffly, not knowing what to say.

“Bethany, you should've told me you knew Mr. Bates! I had no idea you two were acquainted!"

“We're not close. Besides, I'm just an ant to him. Why would I say anything?" Bethany tried her best to play it cool while simultaneously distancing herself from Jonathan.

Luckily, Colt didn't seem to suspect anything else yet.

“Why so modest? Mr. Bates specifically came to the waiting room to see you, which just goes to show how much he values you. Sorry if this sounds crass, but you could use this to your advantage, you know? Bates Group is a goldmine of opportunities, and a slight favor from the head honcho could nudge you towards a life of Luxury.”

Colt had thought that it was such a waste that she didn't seize the opportunity to use Ryan for a leg up in life for the sake of her marriage. Now, with Jonathan being her classmate, she shouldn't waste such a connection.

If Colt were Bethany, he would have used the opportunity to become rich.
