Chapter: 587
To Bethany, Jonathan was acting childishly. It seemed he was after revenge, and this trick was quite lame.

She didn't want to play his game.

"If he really listened to me, this wouldn't be happening," Brody said resignedly.

He had thought Bethany was a player and had tried to persuade Jonathan to move on, but he hadn't been successful.

Jonathan had said quite a number of times that he would give up, but he had never been able to.

Bethany felt as if she were walking on pins and needles.

Even the air in the building felt dangerous to breathe in.

"Didn't Jonathan announce his marriage? How could he do this to his wife?" she asked.

“Maybe you should ask him that yourself," Brody replied.

What could he say?

Jonathan had forbidden him from speaking the truth.

“Alright, I won't trouble you," Bethany said dejectedly, with her shoulders slumped. "Thank you, Brody."

"Don't mention it," Brody said with a polite smile. Then, glancing at his watch, he added, "Mr. Bates’ meeting will end in about an hour. You can wait for him at his designated parking spot."

"Just give me the address. I'll go there myself!" Bethany wanted to maintain as much distance as she could from Jonathan.

"What's the point? Mr. Bates probably just wants to discuss work matters with you. If you keep avoiding him, you're just making things awkward for everyone. Or do you still have feelings for him?"

Bethany was rendered speechless.

Brody turned to leave, but paused at the door. “Oh! One more thing, if I may."

Bethany nodded. "Go ahead."

“Remember what you told me last time at East Shade Bay? Why not say that same thing to Mr. Bates? What if he chooses you?"

Bethany widened her eyes in surprise, and then lowered her gaze without a word.

With a resigned sigh, Brody left her office. After the door closed, Bethany whispered to herself, "But what if he doesn't?"

There was no guarantee that if Jonathan found out the truth, he would side with her instead of his own mother and send the latter to prison.

If she were in Jonathan's shoes, she wouldn't be able to make such a choice either.

An hour later, Bethany arrived at the CEO's designated parking spot.
