Chapter: 593
Jonathan looked up at the rearview mirror to look at her, his eyes darkening. “And who do you think you are to say that?"
Bethany thought of all possible ways to fight back, but in the end, she could only face him head-on.
"There's no need for you to do something like that. We've moved on already."
Jonathan didn't utter a word when she said that. He just looked at her through the mirror.
After some minutes, Bethany heard an almost inaudible sigh.
"I never got married again."
Bethany was left completely speechless.
"So many years have passed, but I haven't moved on.”
He had tried all he could to forget about Bethany, but all attempts proved futile.
He'd rather dwell in the past than think about moving on.
In all honesty, she was left dumbstruck by his words.
Perhaps she would have believed him if she heard that sooner.
But now, she had seen bite marks on his body, so she couldn't take his words for it.
There had to be a woman in his life, the kind he slept with.
Seconds later, she snapped back to reality and said laughing, "You've changed over the years, Mr. Bates. I never knew you to be a liar!"
Jonathan's eyebrows knit together as he turned to face Bethany, their eyes locking in a charged moment.
"I assure you, I'm being truthful," he said firmly, his gaze boring into Bethany's, almost drawing her into his conviction.
Bethany began to regret her decision to confront Jonathan. Now, she felt herself losing control of the situation entirely.
She cleared her throat, attempting to regain her composure, her eyes darting away. "Mr. Bates, let's stick to business."
"Of course, let's talk business," Jonathan replied calmly. "You'll be working overtime tonight."
"Jonathan Bates!" Bethany's frustration flared, her teeth gritting in exasperation. "What do you really want? You told me you hated me when we split up. Are you really going to backtrack on your promise? First, you get dumped, and now you're shamelessly pursuing me?"
Bethany's accusatory words struck Jonathan, draining the color from his face and snapping him back to reality.
Earlier, that call from Jayson had rattled him completely.
As he listened to Bethany chatting warmly with Jayson, making plans for him to pick her up after work, jealousy surged through Jonathan like a tidal wave.
