Chapter: 595
Rowan's heart pounded. Without hesitation, he protested, "No, she's not!"
"She left me, Rowan. I had no clue you were even out there."
Jonathan's voice carried an unusual note of helplessness, a stark contrast to his typical confident demeanor.
Seeing him like this made Rowan feel uneasy, a knot forming in his stomach. After a moment's hesitation, he reluctantly reached out, his small hand grasping at Jonathan's fingers.
Jonathan raised his gaze, locking onto Rowan's with an intensity that made his heart race.
What did the little boy's gesture mean? had acknowledged his words, confirming his suspicion.
When Jonathan spoke again, his voice was tight, trembling with a mix of fear and hope.
“Bethany is your mother, isn't she?"
Rowan's instinct was to deny it and play dumb, but after spending so much time with Jonathan, he knew his childish acting skills wouldn't deceive him.
Besides, the raw look of disappointment and sadness in Jonathan's eyes were unmistakably genuine.
After a few seconds of internal struggle, Rowan decided to stop resisting. "You can't tell her I told you."
Jonathan sat frozen, his mind reeling. Despite his numerous suspicions pointing towards Bethany being the child's mother, having the truth laid bare before him was a shock to his core.
Bethany... She had given him a child?
No, not just one!
"You have a sister, right? Is she also mine?"
Rowan nodded vigorously, his face lighting up with earnest excitement.
"Of course! Mommy never had a boyfriend. My sister just doesn't look as much like you as I do."
"What about Jayson?"
“Jayson? He's just Mommy's good friend. They don't see each other very often." Rowan, young as he was, had no idea what his words implied; he just thought he might as well spill everything since he had already started.
But after saying it all, he quickly added, "You have to promise me you will never tell Mommy that I told you! She'll be so mad at me!"
Rowan remembered his mom's countless warnings not to tell Jonathan.
Jonathan, still in shock, didn't say anything in response.
Rowan nudged him, his voice urgent. “Don't betray me, okay? Just tell her that you figured it all out!"
Only then did Jonathan come to his senses, placing his hand on his chest and nodding slowly.
