Maddie was leaving her job at the legal department when she Learned of it, and she was shocked. Then she realized that Jonathan had never married another woman. It had always been Bethany.

She was already overwhelmed with issues concerning Nikolas, and now this added to her troubles.

Feeling annoyed, she noticed her phone was ringing.

It was an unfamiliar number.

Maddie hesitated to answer the call. Then she considered that the caller might be someone she knew who needed to share crucial information discreetly. Given that it was the end of the workday, she reasoned it wouldn't be suspicious to engage in a conversation, regardless of who it was.

With that thought, she decided to answer the call.

A man's voice asked, "Is this Maddie Hinchcliffe?"

"Yes. Who am I speaking with?"

"This is Ryan Blakely, from Goldwald Company."

Maddie's brow furrowed. She didn't recognize the man, but she knew of Goldwald Company; it was the company where Bethany had previously worked. Jonathan must have bought it because of Bethany.

“How did you get my number? And what do you need?"

Maddie knew she had to be cautious. She felt suspicious and wondered if this was a test.

“There's a matter to discuss. Miss Hinchcliffe, could we meet in person to talk?"

“Sorry, I'd rather we just talk over the phone.”

"I got your number from Nikolas’ phone. You don't need to question my motives. I'm merely looking to collaborate with you," Ryan explained with a smile. "To be honest, I like Bethany. I want her for myself.”

Shocked, Maddie tightened her hold on the phone and asked, "And how does this involve me?"

"If Jonathan reunites with Bethany, I'll be left with nothing. I'm sure you wouldn't want that."

She definitely didn't want that! But she couldn't let that show.

"I'm a friend of Jonathan's. If he finds happiness with Bethany, why would I oppose their reunion?"

"Miss Hinchcliffe, let's be straightforward! We're essentially allies. I'm aiming to win Bethany over, and you're after Jonathan. We could join forces." Ryan paused, then added, "There's no need for hypocrisy. You understand the dynamics between Jonathan and Bethany better than anyone. It's tough for me to separate them without you. Likewise, it's a challenge for you without my help."

Maddie smiled and kept up her act. "I have no idea what you're talking about."

“Bethany gave birth to Jonathan's daughter after their divorce. Just consider the consequence if Jonathan were to find out."

"What?" Maddie was taken aback. Bethany gave birth to Jonathan's child!

"I can provide a photo of the child, but we should meet to discuss this further. What do you say?"
