"Can you stop talking nonsense?"

This was Bates family's property. Misunderstandings could arise if Jonathan's parents overheard.

“Hm! Hmm..." Though Aimee's mouth was covered, her eyes were wide and she continued to mumble, clearly cursing Nikolas.

Nikolas could tell that she was cursing him without loosening his grip.

“I'm warning you, don't talk nonsense! If you continue, my men will throw you out!"

"Hm! Hmm..." Aimee was furious. An idea struck her suddenly; she bit down hard on Nikolas’ hand.

"Ouch!" Nikolas instinctively stepped back from the sharp pain. “Are you a dog?"

"You were the one who covered my mouth. I could barely breathe!"

Aimee's face was red with fury, her words filled with anger. "You all ganged up on Bethany, and now you're doing the same to me. Bethany might let you push her around, but I won't!"

“Who is ganging up on you?" Nikolas was frustrated. If he'd known this earlier, he wouldn't have revealed his identity to her. "You blocked my path. I didn't start this!"

Aimee glanced at him, then back at the gate, raising her eyebrows.

"If you want me to stay quiet, fine, just let me in!"

Nikolas frowned, wondering what she might do if she got inside. “No.”

"Fine!" Aimee nodded, turned back to the gate, cleared her throat, and began shouting. "Nikolas conspired with Maddie and forced Jonathan into breaking up with Bethany..."

Before she could finish, Nikolas' hand was clamped over her mouth again.

"Fine! I'll let you in, okay? But you need to promise me you won't cause trouble or spread rumors. You just want to be with Bethany, right? Then stick with her. You don't know the full story, so don't jump to conclusions!"

Aimee quickly agreed once her demands were met.

Nikolas breathed a sigh of relief. As he released Aimee's hand, she whispered, "You really are no gentleman."

"What?" Nikolas exclaimed in disbelief.

“You have feelings for Maddie, but you won't admit it, right?"

"That was in the past!" Now, the thought of Maddie made Nikolas wish he'd never met her.

Maddie used to be kind and thoughtful, truly capable. It made sense that he had feelings for her back then, right?

“Don't you care for her anymore?" Aimee asked.

“I... Why does it matter to you?" Nikolas grabbed her clothes and said to the guards at the gate, "This is my friend. She's coming in with me. Open the gate."
