Chapter: 66
Bethany was uncertain if Jayson was genuinely interested in discussing work or if Aimee had nudged him to seek her out.
However, she did find the project appealing.
She decided not to let her doubts prevent her from pursuing the opportunity.
After some thought, she responded to Jayson, “Alright, let's stay in contact."
Setting her phone aside, Bethany went to take a shower. When she returned, she noticed an unread message on her phone.
It was from an unknown sender.
The message read, “I heard you're a wealthy man's mistress. What would your mother think if she finds out?"
Bethany felt a chill as if cold water had been splashed on her.
She recognized that the sender was her father's mistress. Unable to stir up trouble at the hospital, the mistress had chosen to target Bethany instead.
“What do you want?" Bethany texted back.
“Ask your mother to divorce, and I'll keep quiet about this."
Bethany was so furious, she could barely keep her hands steady.
She couldn't believe someone could be so devoid of shame. This woman had been her father's mistress for over two decades and was still relentlessly pushing for her mother to divorce.
Yet, Bethany was genuinely concerned about her mother discovering her relationship with Jonathan.
She feared that if her mother learned she had married for money, she would refuse the surgery and get overwhelmed by her emotions, causing further complications.
When Bethany didn't respond, the mistress said, "Don't think you can hide this. I mean what I say."
As Jonathan entered, he noticed Bethany's grave look.
He approached slowly and placed a hand on her shoulder. "What's the matter?"
Startled, she instinctively shielded her phone's screen. “It's nothing."
“Bethany, I think it's time you told your friend that you're married now."
Bethany was taken aback “What? But she'll keep probing! I'm terrible at making up stories."
She knew Aimee too well. Aimee would relentlessly dig for details about her husband. Aimee wasn't one to be easily put off.
"Then tell her the truth." Jonathan's intense gaze was fixed on her, trying to gauge her reaction.
“Tell her what?" Bethany blurted out, having never even considered revealing to anyone that she was married to Jonathan.
