Chapter: 67
After a few seconds of silence, Jonathan frowned and said, "Do you think I would embarrass you?"
“But our contract only lasts for one year." She would have to explain once they divorced.
Bethany explained, "I know you don't like Aimee introducing her cousin to me. You're afraid I might have some unclear relationship with another man during our contract marriage, and it would impact you. Don't worry. I'm not interested in that. If you think my words aren't convincing, you can add a breach of contract clause. I have no objections."
Last time, she had thought deeply about what Jonathan meant when he said he was a neat freak. He couldn't accept sharing a woman with another man.
He saw her as a substitute for the girl he had loved for many years.
In fact, Jonathan was the only man Bethany had ever been with, but she didn't want to tell him that she had given him her first time.
It would put too much pressure on him.
Observing how methodically Bethany discussed their contractual marriage, treating it almost like a business deal, Jonathan took a moment to gather his thoughts.
He reminded himself now was not the time.
Perhaps he was being overly eager.
The next morning, Jonathan's assistant arrived to take them to the airport.
During the drive, Jonathan was engrossed in discussions with other shareholders. He was so preoccupied that he didn't even pause to drink water, finally resting only once they were on the plane.
Bethany left him undisturbed, focusing instead on reviewing the documents Brody had sent over.
The more she read about the project, the more perplexed she became.
The energy-saving company clearly had potential, but was it really necessary for Jonathan, the CEO, to attend this business trip personally? Even if the investment was substantial, it seemed unusual for him to manage it on his own.
Perhaps Jonathan had other reasons for visiting Brokdon.
The flight from Odonset to Brokdon was three hours long. Bethany had filled several pages with notes, while Jonathan caught up on some much-needed sleep.
She wasn't sure when his meeting the previous night had finished, but he appeared exhausted.
Upon landing, Jonathan opened his eyes and looked puzzled. "Are we there?"
"Yes." Bethany offered him a glass of water. "You skipped breakfast and slept through the flight. You might get a stomach ache. Drink some water first."
He accepted it and took a sip. “Thank you."
"You're welcome."
Bethany started to pack up their materials. This effortless interaction was precisely what Jonathan preferred.
He disliked it when Bethany acted overly formal, like a subordinate.
