Chapter: 688
Reflecting on his words, Samira could only nod reluctantly. She didn't agree with him, but she understood the reality.

It appeared that people from affluent families often had little say in such matters, particularly someone like Jonathan, the sole heir to his family's legacy.

"I think Jonathan and Bethany truly love each other."

Samira was aware that love wasn't the only thing that mattered, yet it was rare to find couples who loved each other enough to sacrifice their lives.

She found this quite touching.

"It's easy to say they love each other, but that love won't withstand the test of time!" Godfrey had more to say, yet he held back in Samira's presence. He then said firmly, “Regardless, I won't allow it."

When Bethany returned from Aimee's place, she was surprised to see Jonathan propped up against the bed.

Her face lit up with happiness. "Did Dr. Shaw remove the monitors early? Does this mean you're recovering well?"

Jonathan's expression was slightly awkward. He seemed about to nod, but instead, he changed the subject. “I think I can walk now.”

“That's not possible! You shouldn't walk until Dr. Shaw gives you the clearance." Bethany approached the bed and reached to clean him with a towel, but then she noticed something amiss. “Your bandage... It looks new. Did you bleed?"

"Dr. Shaw changed it. It might have been necessary when the monitors were removed," he answered vaguely.

Bethany was so focused on Jonathan's improvement that she didn't dwell on it.

“Jonathan, please take care of yourself. Don't make me feel guilty again," Bethany said earnestly as she gazed into Jonathan's eyes.

She couldn't handle Jonathan's overwhelming love, which weighed on her day and night without relief.

“I don't want you to feel guilty." Jonathan's tone was even more earnest. "You know what I desire."

Bethany was momentarily speechless.

"Bethany, have you accepted my father's condition?"

Bethany stared at him in shock and asked, "Did he talk to you about it?"

"I knew it. I knew they would make things difficult for you!"

Before Jonathan had lost consciousness due to his injuries, his thoughts had lingered on Bethany. He had feared that if he died or remained unconscious for a long time, his parents would certainly make her life difficult.

However, the severe blood loss had overwhelmed him, rendering him unable to fight off the drowsiness. His eyes had closed amidst a swirl of worry and apprehension.

“Calm down." Worried that Jonathan would feel sorrow and regret, Bethany managed a reassuring smile. “I accepted their terms because, firstly, they can indeed provide better opportunities and a brighter future for the children. Secondly, it allows me to visit you. It seems like the best solution for everyone involved."

"I can't believe you're okay with being apart from the children."

Jonathan was skeptical of Bethany's agreement.
