Chapter: 689
It seemed to Bethany that she could never keep secrets from Jonathan.
"Yes, I don't want to be apart from them, but a parent's love is about looking ahead. I considered their future."
“Even without my father, Nola and Rowan can still have a bright future. Their father is still here."
As long as Jonathan was around, he was determined to ensure his children would not suffer.
“Look at you. It's not that serious. Why do you have to doubt me like this?" Bethany tried to deflect, not wanting to prolong their disagreement. "Rest for a bit. I'm going to see Dr. Shaw to get some treatment for my legs."
She left the room before Jonathan could respond.
As she wheeled herself to the door of Samira's office, she unexpectedly overheard Godfrey's voice.
“Samira, if only you could be my daughter-in-law."
Upon hearing that, Samira was even more surprised than Bethany.
"What? Godfrey, stop joking!"
Godfrey said nothing in response. After a moment's hesitation, he smiled and said, "Francine and I are heading back to Floria. We have some matters to attend to there, so please, take good care of Jonathan. I trust your medical expertise."
"Don't worry. He's recovering well. You and Francine can go about your business with peace of mind."
"That's good to know."
Knowing that Godfrey was about to come out, Bethany quickly hid in an empty room to avoid crossing paths with him.
Once she was sure he was gone, she emerged and knocked on the door.
“Bethany, you're here." Samira turned around to fetch the medicine she needed to apply.
As she rummaged through the supplies, a sudden thought caused her to pause. She turned slightly and asked, “How long have you been here?"
Bethany couldn't have heard the conversation between her and Godfrey, could she?
“I just got here," Bethany replied, not wanting to embarrass Samira.
After all, Samira had always been kind to her, and she had no romantic interest towards Jonathan.
And even if she had, Bethany knew her place. She had no reason to feel jealous or to push Samira away, especially since Jonathan had been severely injured while protecting her, and it was Samira who had saved him.
The longstanding friendship between the two families made their bond naturally close.
Despite her affluent background, Samira carried none of the arrogance one might expect. Her demeanor was more akin to the girl next door- gentle and kind.
Just like now, Samira squatted in front of her and deftly applied ointment to Bethany's legs.
