Chapter: 714
"There is no if."

"ALL I'm asking you is to just promise me. Is it that hard? People change, and no one can predict the future. Fine, even if we don't break up, there's still the matter of life and death, and that's something you can't prevent. Just promise me, if I die, you'll treat all your children with equal love, okay?"

Jonathan fell silent for a few seconds, his eyes locked onto hers.

"I won't have other children. Once I'm discharged, I'll get a vasectomy."

Bethany's eyes popped open as she exclaimed, "No way!"

"I have Nola and Rowan. They're enough for me."

Jonathan never dared to hope that he might have children with Bethany, let alone a daughter and a son both at once!

He couldn't wish for anything more.

Bethany trusted his words, yet she wouldn't let him proceed with that idea.

"Jonathan, you have many years ahead of you. We shouldn't rush into decisions that will impact our lives so significantly."

The future...

It seemed so distant.

What if Jonathan fell for someone else later on? He was remarkable and always stood out. Everywhere he went, he caught everyone's eye.

In the coming decades, it was inevitable that someone perfect for him might appear. How regrettable would it be if they couldn't have a child because of a rash decision made today?

“Are you considering having another child?" Jonathan asked with a raised eyebrow. "I'm worried you might not be able to handle it.”

Bethany was at a loss for words momentarily before she said, "I didn't mean I want another baby!"

"Then who else would I have a child with?" Jonathan's tone shifted from teasing to a touch of irritation. "Who do you want to push me to?"

It had been a long time since Bethany had seen Jonathan angry. She instinctively looked down, wanting to clarify but realizing there was nothing to clarify.

“If I could stop loving you, why would I endure the pain of being stuck for years?"

Jonathan had tried to move past their failed relationship.

He had spent countless nights fueled by memories, unable to sleep. He had desperately searched every corner of East Shade Bay for anything that belonged to Bethany. The bed sheet, the pillow, her uncollected clothes, and the dishes she used at home—Jonathan had kept them all meticulously.

As long as he kept these items, it was as though Bethany had never left.

But Bethany was unaware of this, hence her statement.

"I'm sorry," Bethany said in a raspy voice. "I thought you were trying to move on by removing the tattoo."
